1. What is Awana?
The goal at Awana is to reach boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and to train and serve Him. Awana stands for “Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed” based on 2 Timothy 2:15. This is a great description of people who are very familiar with the Bible, one of the main goals of Awana. For more than seven decades, the Lord Jesus has used the global ministry of Awana to reach kids, equip leaders, and change the world with the power of His Word.
The Awana program at Fairhaven Bible Chapel currently offers four clubs from children ages 3 years through 8th grade. We use Scripture memorization to point children and their families to God and the gospel message and to engage children in relationship with God and others.
2. How do I register my child for Awana?
- Fill out the online registration form (link just below)
- Complete the required “Contact Information & Permission, Medical Authorization” form (link just below)
- The PDF available on our website can either be filled out online or downloaded to complete. If you access the PDF online, please print it out, and bring the completed form with your child on their first night at club.
- A copy can be provided for you by the Awana Secretary to fill out at your child’s first night at club.

- Club eligibility is based on age and grade level as of September 1.
- Cubbies is for children who are 3-4 years old and celebrates the spiritual potential of preschoolers by helping them develop respect for God, His Son, and His Word. NOTE: To be eligible for Cubbies, a child must be at least 3 years old by September 1 and is potty trained.
- Sparks ignites the curiosity of early elementary kids to learn about the people and events of the Bible, building a foundation of wisdom for knowing Christ.
- Truth & Training (T&T) engages upper elementary kids by answering their questions about God and the Bible, guiding them through this pivotal life stage to grow in Christ’s grace.
- Trek challenges middle school students to wrestle with the three most important questions they’re asking at this age. By allowing clubbers to dive deep into the Scriptures and answer these questions for themselves, we allow them to own their faith and discover what they believe
4. How much does club membership cost?
Each clubber is asked to pay the following each year:
- Handbook — $15
- Vest/Shirt — $15
- Optional Tote Bag — $10 (Cubbies & Sparks)
- Optional Sling Bag — $15 (T&T & Trek)
- Grand Prix Race Car Kit – $5
Please bring cash or a check (made out to “Fairhaven Bible Chapel”) when you register your child on their first night at club. If this cost is a hardship to your family, please let your child’s Club Director know so that special arrangements can be made.
Fairhaven offers a free dinner each week to parents and clubbers between 5:00-5:40 p.m.
In addition, there is no cost if your child’s club offers Saturday outings.
5. What happens during an evening at Awana?
Our weekly evening schedule is as follows:
- 5:00 – 5:40 p.m. — Free dinner for clubbers, parents, and leaders
- 5:40 – 6:00 p.m. — Dinner cleanup and kids play (no dinner is served)
- 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. — All clubbers and leaders meet on the red line in the Lower Auditorium for announcements and flag salutes.
After our brief opening, our clubs meet in the following locations:
- Cubbies head to the Nursery (downstairs next to the water fountain). Parents can sign out their children in the Lower Auditorium.
- Sparks heads upstairs to the front of the Main Auditorium. Parents sign out their children in the room at the back of the Main Auditorium.
- T&T stays in the Lower Auditorium. Parents can sign out their children in the hallway just outside the Fireside Room.
- Trek stays in the Lower Auditorium. Parents can sign out their children in the Main Auditorium.
For all four of our clubs, a typical meeting includes:
- Game Time: Individual and/or team competition takes place through fun and unique games.
- Large Group Time: Everyone gathers for singing, celebrating accomplishments, and a practical Bible message or story
- Handbook Time: Small groups of children make friends and work with a trained adult leader to complete assignments in the curricular materials. We emphasize memorizing and understanding key Scriptures that show how to know God and walk with Him. A system of awards motivates kids to dig deeply into God’s Word.
6. What are “themes” and what is the meeting schedule for the year?
Our Awana clubs meet on Thursday evenings at Fairhaven between September through May each year. The schedule for club meetings will be provided when your child registers, and it is available our website (see below).
Our weekly themes energize our clubbers, boost participation, and are just plain fun! Participation in the weekly themes is optional, but older clubbers earn points for awards for their club participation, which includes the themes. Most of our themes include simple dress-up options or bringing items found around the house.
To help you keep track of our themes and the meetings schedule we provide:
- a handout of all themes for the year upon registration and on the Awana bulletin board all year
- announcement postings on the Awana bulletin board of the current & next week’s themes
- a weekly email for all Awana parents with reminders of that week’s theme
- a weekly text for T&T parents reminding them of that week’s theme & handbook focus
- theme listings on our website (see this Awana page and our Events calendar)
7. Can I to stay with my child or can I drop them off?
We encourage parents to stay and observe our meetings to get familiar with our program and leaders. Younger clubbers sometimes feel more comfortable with a parent in the room with them.
If your child is joining us for dinner, please understand that parents are responsible for their children until 6:00 p.m. at which time your child is under our supervision. When a parent is leaving the grounds, we can only accept children at 6:00 p.m. We ask that you return no later than 7:30 p.m. to pick them up.
To find our sign-in table, enter the building and immediately head down the stairs. You’ll see the Sparks Secretary at the sign-in table at the entrance to the Lower Auditorium. Just look for the big Awana bulletin board.
8. What should my child wear and bring to club?
What to Wear
Each clubber will receive a vest (Cubbies & Sparks) or a shirt (T&T and Trek), which they are to wear at all club meetings and events. This uniform helps identify them as being part of the Awana club and is how they can display the awards they receive.
Closed-toed shoes must be worn at all times by the clubbers and leaders.
Sometimes our weekly themes involves dressing up in a costume of sorts, at which time wearing the Awana vest or shirt may prove difficult or unnecessary. T&T clubbers wanting to earn participation points should bring their shirt, even if they’re not wearing it for a special theme night.
Each week your clubber should bring their:
- handbook
- vest/shirt
- a Bible
We encourage clubbers to bring a friend, and candy bars are awarded to the clubber and their visiting friend!
9. Are there any special events or outings for Awana?
The Awana Grand Prix — In February 2026, Fairhaven resurrected the traditional Grand Prix, and we’re hoping to make this an annual tradition once again. We offer a “Car Work Day” on a Saturday where clubbers can bring their ideas, parents, and their car kits (purchased at club in the weeks prior). Volunteers are ready to cut and provide basic shaping and assistance to get the cars into production for the big event. On a subsequent Saturday we host the Grand Prix, which is a morning of great excitement and thrills. You can read about the 2026 Grand Prix on the following web page:
T&T Special Events — The T&T club hosts special events on 3-4 Saturdays throughout the year. These events are free to clubbers, and parents are invited to join us. When the event is at an off-site location, we might need parents to help with transportation.
When you registered your child for Awana, you completed a “Contact Information & Permission, Medical Authorization” form for each of your children (see “2. How do I register my child for Awana?“). This form also serves as a permission slip for your child at any Awana events. If your clubber brings a guest to an off-site event, a signed permission slip for that event will be necessary and will be provided by the club secretary.
10. What procedures are in place to ensure my child’s safety?
Children are precious to us at Fairhaven, and we take our responsibility to care for and protect them seriously. Our goal is for every parent to feel confident and at peace while their child is with us. Some of the ways we prioritize safety include:
- Caring, trained, and carefully vetted volunteers and staff who serve together in teams.
- A secure sign-in and sign-out system ensuring that only authorized individuals may drop off and pick up children.
- Dedicated monitoring of the grounds to ensure only authorized participants are on site.
- Registration forms on which we collect important information such as allergies, medical needs, and emergency contacts.
- Completion of state-required background checks and annual child protection training.
